The Year 2011 in Review
What a year this has been for the Adinolfi's. It started out normally with returning to Lake in the Forest Campground in Ocklawaha, Florida for a second winter. In early November we went to Hommosassa for dinner with Lisa Slinsky and Kurt. This was the first time we had gator and it was really good and did not taste like chicken. We had LGE friends Tina and Don at the park with us. Their grandson Vinny also came for some time. It was great to see our friends again for the winter. We had a get together at Orange Lake with many LGE friends hosted by Bonnie and Craig. It was a very enjoyable day to spend with fellow workampers. We also traveled to Tampa for the huge RV show, the Tampa Home Show and visits to Costco and Hobbytown. We also made a trip to Cape Coral to spend a couple of days with John and Jan Jabieski and Marie and Bob from England. During the trip we went out to Sanibel Island to collect sea shells and view the native wildlife and birds.
In May we went to the pound and adopted a three month old lab puppy, or should I say she adopted us. When we went in to look at the puppies she came over to us and would not leave us alone. That was all it took, we brought her home. To say the least it was interesting at first and still is. Now Abby is nine months old and she is showing promise of calming down. Time will tell.
This past summer we opted to try a summer in Florida. The weather was hot but not as humid as we had been made to believe. We worked at Lake in the Forest. Diane worked in the office and Jack worked outside doing maintenance. It was a very rewarding summer. We both learned ceramics from the park owner, Deb, and also at the C & R Ceramic studio in Ocala. We purchased a 17 foot Sea Ray center console outboard boat as well. Our first trip was up the Silver River to Silver Springs State Park. The water is anywhere from four feet to twenty five feet deep and is clear as a bell. The fish are all over with all kinds of suckermouth catfish (aquarium types), bass, gar and sunfish. Also on the trip we were able to see the resident monkeys. There are several troops here and they have been here since the 1930's. The first Tarzan movies were filmed at Silver Springs.
We made three trips this summer and fall. The first was to Connecticut for Jack's 50th High School Reunion. Seeing what Westport has done to Staples High School makes you want to go back to school again, just kidding. A lot of collages would be envious of this school. It was nice to see classmates from 50 years ago. Actually the class has fared pretty well although some are not with us any longer. At our age that is to be expected. The second trip was back to the northeast for Jack's auctions. One was in New Hampshire and the other in Westport, CT. These are the last as he has retired, the trips are really tough and costly. We spent the two weeks in between with Jack's army buddy Elmer and his family in PA. It was a nice visit and the trip was filled with visiting and seeing long time friends again. The final trip was to San Antonio TX for our Grandson Robert's wedding. Jack married them, he is legal to marry people in the 50 states, not a priest or minister, but a legal official. While in San Antonio we visited with Robert, his wife Hannah and their son William as well as our daughter Shari and our grandson Dillon. The trip back was a 19 hour drive thru. That will be our last long trip for a while.
We only worked 20 hours a week so we had plenty of time to scope out the area. We would go around and look at houses for sale, not to buy, just to look. On one of those trips we stopped at a realtor to find information at a house we had seen. She gave us some other houses to look at and the rest is history. We found a house in Belleview that had a tarp on the flat roof and a yard that was in complete disarray. We went back and made an appointment to see the inside. That tarp covered a hole in the roof and it leaked pretty bad but the rest of the house was in great shape. The hole was very repairable and also a great reason to put in a real lowball bid for the house. They accepted the bid and now we are homeowners again. We had planned to stay on the road at least two more years but plans are made to be changed. We now have the rooms painted, the roof leak fixed and are replacing the windows. The kitchen is next on the agenda, we already have new appliances, and just need to buy and install the cabinets. We are doing all the work ourselves except the windows. This keeps us pretty busy but we both love doing the work.
If you are in central Florida give us a call, we would love to see you and we do have a guest cottage for friends who stop by. We are about two hours north of Disney World and Orlando as well as a little over an hour from both the Atlantic and the Gulf. A very nice central location to see central Florida.
May the year 2012 bring you good health and may all your dreams come true.
